And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
Here are ways I don’t do things in the name of the Lord Jesus. I can be mean, I drive too fast and people are always getting in my way, I am impatient in stores if I have to wait too long, I am an impatient person, I am a perfectionist, not doing things because I don’t feel like it, and being too busy with my own life to take time for others. I don’t want to act out of anger or crankiness or impatience. That just leads me to more turmoil in my day and a lack of God’s blessings.
Here are deeds that I can do that don’t cost me a thing. Be kind to others, smile when I don’t feel like it, sincerely compliment someone, recycle, make a homeless person a homemade sandwich with a cup of coffee, let someone go ahead of you in line (that includes traffic), hold the door for the next person, make facebook postings about others not myself, give a little love to the unlovable.
God always blesses me when I am kind to others (do you get that same good feeling inside I get – I’m sure you do – that is God’s blessing). When I make a conscious effort to do these little things daily they become habits – good habits. Therefore enabling me to honor and praise God.
I chose this verse for single moms Mother’s Day cards because life can be tough as a single parent raising a family. My prayer for the single mom opening the card: Father, thank you for this single mom and the life she has in Christ Jesus. Thank you that she can live in the light, enjoying love, peace and harmony. May she let every detail of her life, words and actions be done in the name of Jesus as she thanks you every step of the way.
