Card Making

Create Your Own Background

This week’s Wednesday challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is to create your own background. Lucky for me I have been creating some rustic, country, white washed farmhouse backgrounds to use with SSS August card kit.

For this card I took the modern flower background stamp and rusticized it (is it a word ?) by heat embossing white detail embossing powder onto white cardstock, heat setting it, then I took the Iced Spruce distress ink pad directly to the card stock and swiped downward, next I took Broken China and swiped that down the cardstock. I let it air dry overnight (just because I was tired and had to go to bed). Using a scoreboard I added the score lines. GinaK has some wonderful videos on this technique.

In the morning when I looked at the card background, I thought of a barn door, so I took some very thick gray twine from my stash and made an X – glued it down and that was that. I adhered my already colored (copics) focal point and adhered it with foam squares. I stamped the sentiment directly on the card when OOPS! it smeared. So I found some gray cardstock, stamped the sentiment and tore around the edges (keeping with rustic theme).

In addition to the Wednesday challenge over at SSS I will also be entering the challenge over at Live Love Cards (members only) which is monochromatic.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.
