Mail It Monday Challenge #3

One of my many goals this year is to step out of my comfort zone and join in some challenges and overcome my perfection obsession. Mail It Monday is over on Small Talk Mama’s blog. Her blog is unique in that it isn’t dedicated to just card making or crafts. It’s about life. I found it by commenting on one of her cards she made for OWH. I joined in Words2ScrapBy challenges because they were fellow card makers for OWH  – I was led to join in this one as well for the same reason.

Each Monday the challenge encourages you to create a new card based on provided themes, sketches, holidays, colors, etc. Once you’ve created your card and posted it, you are encouraged to actually write a note to someone special, plop a stamp on it and send it on it’s way.

I am off to the Post Office today with my box of 175 cards to ship off to OWH and the card I made for Mail It Monday Challenge #3 (based on the sketch provided) is an ANY HERO card to include in my box.

Mail-it-Monday-ChallengeI used a My Favorite Things stencil, versa mark and fine silver embossing powder for the base of the card. I used My Favorite Things stars stencil for the next layer, left the stencil in the die and used Memento Summer Sky ink around the edges to make it look like there is a mat. I used My Favorite Things Flags die for the next layer cut out in blue. Continuing on with the star theme I cut out a circle and then a matting circle (sponged with Aegean Blue Versa Magic) using Spellbinders Circle dies. The sentiment is from Stampin Up as well as the die cut.

Well thanks for stopping by and I encourage you to support our fellow card makers in their challenges. It is so much fun and you meet the greatest people in the world.

Color Challenge Teal

This week’s Midweek challenge is to make a card using the color teal. I found a stripe scrap with teal and kraft and went with it.

midweek-throwdown-tealThe background I stamped using Teal Zeal (Memento) onto MFT Kraft cardstock. The mat cardstock is Coordinations called Gulfstream. Used spellbinders scalloped circles and MFT pierced ovals for the die cuts. I don’t know where the ribbon or the stamp is from.

Thanks for stopping by.

OWH Sketch #212

This week’s sketch #212 can be found here. I made two cards for Father’s Day using this sketch. One card is Father’s Day specific and the other card can be used any time of the year.

Sorry I don’t know what the coordinating papers are. I used Die-namics Tool Charms from MFT in place of the flags on a Swiss Dots EF strip and the sentiment is from GinaK Designs.

Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous Sunday afternoon.

OWH Midweek Challenge – Dry Embossing

I’ve made my goal — 365 cards for OWH for 2013 (this does not include any hero cards). I am so excited that I made my goal – with plenty of time to spare. I will be sending off 100 cards to OWH tomorrow – for the December 31, 2013 deadline for Valentine’s/Love cards.

I love how dry embossing can add a finished look to a card or when a card just needs a little something extra you can either dry emboss part of it, an element in it or the whole thing. Here are some cards I’ve made using dry embossing.

This card I embossed (Cuttlebug D’vine Swirls) and then used a brayer to apply the blue ink. This card was based on OWH Sketch #95

This card is sketch #93 and the embossing (Cuttlebug Stars) is on the strip behind the two patterned pieces.

This card is sketch #91 and I embossed the card (Cuttlebug Stars) after it was put together. The sentiment is computer generated.

This card I cut out the three hearts using Spellbinders, then stamped a little heart from Stamps of Life upside down for the stem and then hand drew lines for the strings. Then from the Cuttlebug Simply Charmed set of 4 embossing folders I used the check background to emboss the panel; the strip of paper was fed through a die from the Spellbinders Postage card creator. I did not use any sentiment on purpose so this could be used for any occasion or even as a child’s card.

And this last card I embossed the card panel with Darice Dot Point embossing folder. The pinwheel is from Stamps of Life.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day.

Midweek Throwdown

So I am trying to reach my goal of 365 cards for 2013 and I may fall a little short. I am not counting Any Hero cards I send in. I am also trying to use the OWH sketches for my inspiration. This week’s throwdown challenge is to use pink and green (my two favorite color combinations).

So my first card is using sketch #57. The cardbase and papers are from GinaK Designs. The tag and circle dies are from Spellbinders.

The second card I used sketch #61.  The cardbase is MFT sour apple cardstock and I used MFT Flower Medley Die-namics, Razzle Berry ink for the Sentiment (Just Rite — hugs and kisses).

Card Creator from Spellbinders are my favorite dies to use. I’m not good with ribbons or lace or fancy embellishments on cards and when making cards for our heroes I try not to add any bulk so that they won’t fall apart with all the handling they go through before they are actually mailed by our heroes to their loved ones. These dies work wonderful for me and I can’t say enough about them. When using the more intricate die cuts I adhere with Aleene’s Crystal Clear Tacky Spray which gives a permanent bond once it is dry. It is a little messy but it gives me peace of mind that everything is going to stay in place.

This card I used the Fancy Ribbon Threader (S5-176). This die is very intricate and I spritz the die with some water before running it through the cuttlebug. This helps to cut out all those little details of the die. I used GinaK Designs cardstock for the cardbase. The sentiment is stamped with MFT Razzle Berry ink.

For this card I used the Fancy Ribbon Threader – I love this one because all I had to do was weave the ribbon in and out — that ribbon is green with little pink polka dots (how appropriate – don’t know where I got it).

And this last one I used the Fancy Postage Edge. The Flower is my all time go to – SU 5th Avenue Floral stamped with MFT Razzle Berry Ink. throwdown-5th-ave-floral

Well that puts me five cards closer to my goal for 2013. Thanks for stopping by.
