Words 2 Craft By #53

It has been a long time since I have had the time to play along at Words 2 Craft By. I know a few of the ladies who are involved in this group from my days creating cards for Operation Write Home. The words for this month If you can read this, thank a teacher.

I can recall quite a few teachers who had a profound influence in my life. Most of them are from my high school days. In my Senior Year I had a history teacher (Miss Miller) who taught us about voting. It was a very significant year (1971) because the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18. She gave us all the whys and hows of voting, what a privilege it was to vote, not a right but a privilege and also an obligation. She told us if you want to be part of history you must vote. The 26th Amendment became part of the Constitution on July 1, 1971 (a month after I graduated).

Needless to say, the following year (1972) Richard M. Nixon was voted in as our new President and the rest is history. I have to say because of Miss Miller I was so engrossed in all the news articles, TV news reports, magazines during his Presidency, and boy oh boy there sure was a lot going on (if you are old enough to remember). Had I not had her as a teacher I don’t think voting would have had the impact it has had on my life.

This card is for Miss Miller:

The apple, papers and ribbon are from Stamps of Life. The sentiment is from Hero Arts.

Vitamin Sea

Vacations are like a reset button mentally, physically and spiritually. We all need them. I am lucky enough to live an hour and a half from the beach. I love the smell of the ocean. I do not enjoy lying on the beach and I will only sit on the beach if I have a chair. But I love walking along the shoreline finding shells or going on the jetties and looking for sea life. The beach and ocean have many therapeutic qualities. Check out this article – Vitamin “Sea”: The Therapeutic & Sensory Benefits of Sun, Sand & Surf found on Get Well Maps blog.

I made this card with no recipient in mind. Words 2 Craft By Challenge this month are words about vacation.

To create the weathered board I learned it here. I stamped the image (Stamplorations) and masked it off and used pan pastels to create the sky/water; the birds are from GinaK Designs. I created the port hole using circle dies and Dazzle jewel dots. The ship’s wheel is from MFT and the sentimet is also from Stamplorations.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Words 2 Craft By Challenge #39

Words 2 Craft By has a new challenge going on “Proverbs and Blessings”. The inspirational words this month are from an Irish Proverb — A good friend is like a four-leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have. You can create any kind of craft, I choose to make a card “You are my Lucky Penny”. I did find my inspiration on Pinterest.

Happy St. Patricks Day and thanks for stopping by.

Words 2 Craft By #38 Celebrations

There is another fun challenge over at Words 2 Craft By this month. The quote is from Mark Twain about Mardi Gras. I do love the colors of the celebration and I tried to incorporate them into my card. I love all the costumes (some outrageous). I used a stamp from Dylusions (Dyan Reavelry) and gold embossed it (one of the colors of Mardi Gras) and watercolored with distress inks. I die cut a bunch of little flowers to give her an amazing hat.

This was totally out of my comfort zone. But I loved every minute of how it took on its own flavor. Lots of sparkle and shine! The glitter paper is from DCWV and I also used Wink of Stella glitter markers on her lips and eyebrows.

Thanks so much for stopping by and Let the Good Times Roll!

I so appreciate their dedication and hard work and the relationships I have made this last year. SAS4KIDS is not just about making cards it is about heart, kindness, appreciation, sharing and love.

The mitten die cut and sentiment is from Stamps of Life. Papers are from my stash.

I will be entering my card at Words 2 Craft By.

Guest I Teamer Words 2 Craft By

Words 2 Craft By was created by ladies that were involved in Operation Write Home of which I was a big part of for five years. When Operation Write Home came to an end (troops came home — yea!) many of us didn’t know where to turn. A few of us found other ways to donate cards, I myself became involved in Send A Smile 4 Kids.

Winning last months challenge over at Words 2 Craft By wasn’t much to write home about. There were only four entries. I guess you could say I won by default. BUT because I “won” I was asked to be a Guest I-Teamer this month.

Based on this month’s quote here is my card:

thanksgiving-pilgrim-girl

All supplies used are from the Stamps of Life except for the additional leaves I added (punch). Little Pilgrim was colored with Copics.

I encourage you to check out Words 2 Craft By blog and create something using this month’s quote which can be found here.

Thanks for stopping by.

Words 2 Craft By September Challenge

The September/October Challenge over at Words 2 Craft By is “Every Child Deserves a Hero”. This is the quote to use as inspiration:

Every child deserves a champion — an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists they become the best they can possibly be. Rita Pierson

I am a grandmother to three wonderful human beings. I love spending time with them and seeing their achievements at each milestone in their lives. Yesterday the youngest (6 months old) said MOM for the first time. My other grandson is almost 10 and loves every sport on the face of the earth and stops at nothing to at least try it out. My granddaughter is 7 and loves, loves, loves football. She is on a flag football team this year (yea girl power). My husband and I try to go to all their games. Grandparents play a huge role in being a champion for their grandchildren.

Here is my card which was inspired by the above quote.

I used an image from Free Dearie Dolls Digi Stamps, colored with Copics. The sentiment was computer generated. Papers from Stamps of Life and the bling is from Hero Arts.
